Detroit Tigers 'playing too much defense and not enough offense' in lethargic loss

When the Detroit Tigers took the field at Comerica Park, a couple of minutes before 1:10 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, they were a win away from back-to-back wins for the first time in more than two months and their first two-game winning streak at home since early April. Back then, of course, they really, actually — no, seriously — won five straight games.

Rookie left-hander Tyler Alexander had the ball. Just 13 minutes later, after 23 Alexander pitches and three Chicago White Sox hits, they left the field down, 1-0, never to catch up again.

After a rapid bottom of the inning, they returned to the field, looking for three more outs.
