Detroit Tigers place Miguel Cabrera on IL, add Renato Nunez to 40-man roster

The Detroit Tigers will be missing their Hall of Fame slugger for the next several games.

Eleven-time All-Star Miguel Cabrera was placed on the injured list Tuesday with a left biceps strain. In a corresponding move, Renato Nunez, a first baseman/designated hitter signed to a minor-league contract this offseason, has been added to the 40-man roster and will report to Detroit.

Julio Teheran, another offseason addition, was moved to the 60-day IL.

Cabrera, who has a shot at eclipsing 500 home runs and 3,000 hits this season, is batting .125 with a home run and three RBIs through seven games this season.
