The Detroit Tigers have placed third baseman Jeimer Candelario on the bereavement list and called up infielder Isaac Paredes from Triple-A Toledo, the team announced on Tuesday.
Candelario has been the Tigers' most consistent hitter for the second straight season. This year, he's hitting .266 with an on-base-plus-slugging percentage of .717, four home runs and 18 RBIs in 57 games.
When a player is on the bereavement list, he must miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games.
Paredes, who made his major league debut last season and won the batting title in the Mexican League this winter, is hitting .
