MINNEAPOLIS — Ron Gardenhire’s head was still spinning from discussions that ended late Thursday night and continued the next day, so he let Detroit Tigers media relations coordinator Michele Wysocki announce the big, bad news of the day.
Blaine Hardy, one of the team’s most reliable pitchers this season, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with left elbow tendonitis. In a corresponding move, the Tigers recalled lefty Matt Carpenter from Triple-A Toledo.
Carpenter was widely believed to be Saturday’s starting pitcher, in place of Artie Lewicki, who was placed on the DL with right elbow inflammation earlier in the week.
