Detroit Tigers fans were witness to some solid pitching performances early in the 2016 season. Justin Verlander kicked things off by taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning against the Marlins on Opening Day. Anibal Sanchez followed by arguably outdueling resident Miami ace Jose Fernandez.
The bullpen has also showed well this season. Mark Lowe, Justin Wilson, Drew VerHagen and Kyle Ryan have all given Brad Ausmus quality innings in relief while even Shane Greene notched a save.
However, despite all those pitchers performing at a high level, the best Tigers pitcher during the season’s first week was Jordan Zimmermann.
