One former Detroit Tigers pitcher picked up the win Friday night. Another closed it out for his first save this season.
Anibal Sanchez pitched six strong innings, and Fernando Rodney worked a perfect ninth, helping the Washington Nationals beat the Tigers, 3-1, at Comerica Park.
For the Tigers (26-51), it was their eighth consecutive setback and 21st loss in their past 23 home games.
Sanchez (4-6, 3.82 ERA) showed glimpses of dominance, allowing one earned run on six hits and a walk, while striking out eight. His lone blemish was a solo home run to Nicholas Castellanos in the fifth inning.
