Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.
The Detroit Tigers’ two-game winning streak was ended by the left arm of Mike Montgomery on Saturday, as they were shut out by the Royals, 7-0.
Montgomery pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts. He was in control throughout, dominating the Tigers with an array of sharp breaking balls.
In his second start since returning from the 10-day injured list, righty Spencer Turnbull pitched well for the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings.
Turnbull’s only blemish came in the top of the fourth inning, when Jorge Soler hit his 33rd home run of the season to right-center field to drive in two runs.
