LAKELAND, Fla. — Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer made his second Grapefruit League start on Monday afternoon and showed signs of improvement.
His fastball velocity, a cause of concern for reporters after reaching 89-91 m.p.h. in his debut outing, topped out at 93 m.p.h.
Again, Fulmer stressed he was not concerned about his fastball velocity – it’s ticking up and he has four starts remaining this spring – and he has a point. This offseason, Fulmer spent rehabilitating from a third right knee meniscus surgery.
Nothing has indicated that Fulmer’s fastball velocity is anything more than the starting point of a slow, gradual build up for the regular season.
