Again, Detroit Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd gave his team a chance to win. And again, his team didn’t seize that opportunity.
Boyd didn’t pitch his best Friday night, but the game was tied when he left after seven innings. The Minnesota Twins (42-20) proceeded to score twice in the eighth, beating the Tigers, 6-3, at Comerica Park.
Boyd (5-4, 3.08 ERA) allowed three earned runs on nine hits and two wild pitches. He struck out eight and walked none.
The Tigers (23-37) lost control in the eighth, when set-up man Joe Jimenez allowed a leadoff home run to Nelson Cruz and an RBI single to Marwin Gonzalez.
