The losing continues.
With the Detroit Tigers mired in a dismal stretch at Comerica Park, it was a familiar face who did them in Friday night.
Former Tiger Anibal Sanchez pitched six solid innings, helping the Washington Nationals beat Detroit, 3-1, in the series opener. The Tigers have lost eight consecutive games and 21 of their last 23 home games.
Sanchez (4-6, 3.82 ERA) allowed one run on six hits and a walk, while striking out eight. His lone blemish was a solo home run byNicholas Castellanos in the fifth inning, cutting Washington’s lead to 2-1.
