CARLSBAD, Calif. — Nicholas Castellanos is the Detroit Tigers’ right fielder.
On Tuesday afternoon at the General Managers’ Meetings, Tigers general manager Al Avila said though the team had explored the idea of Castellanos playing first base next season, he will remain in right field.
“The idea was thrown around, but it didn’t really take root,” Avila said. “So he’s our right fielder.”
Avila said the idea came about earlier in the summer. It was said to be broached again late in the season, when other Tigers outfielders — Mikie Mahtook included — were encouraged to take ground balls at first base.
