The Pittsburgh Pirates announced yesterday that Mike Rabelo will join new Pirates manager Derek Shelton’s staff as the team’s assistant hitting coach. For Rabelo, he expressed his feelings about the experience when speaking to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“It felt like when I got called up to the big leagues as a player. It’s the same feeling. Here I am doing it as a coach, getting this opportunity, this wonderful opportunity to be a part of something special.”
The 39-year-old Rabelo was 358-274 in six seasons in the Tigers system.
