The Detroit Tigers used to have no problem counting on Jeimer Candelario.
He opened the 2018 season as the team's everyday third baseman, batting second in the lineup to set the table for Miguel Cabrera, Nick Castellanos and Victor Martinez. By Opening Day in 2019, after flashing a 19-home run season, he moved to the cleanup spot.
But his output was troublesome and led to his brief replacement in favor of prospect Dawel Lugo. Candelario hit .203 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 94 games last season.
That's not good enough.
