Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera awarded first base with walk following lengthy delay in ninth inning

PITTSBURGH -- Miguel Cabrera knew he had drawn a walk in the ninth inning Wednesday night. It just took 10 or 15 minutes for the home-plate umpire to pass along the message.

The Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night in a 1-0 game that was played in 2 hours, 52 minutes. But that included a lengthy delay in the ninth inning that had many fans watching at PNC Park and on television at home confused about what was going on.

"Unbelievable," Cabrera said.

Pirates relief pitcher Mark Melancon delivered a 3-2 pitch to Cabrera that was high and out of the strike zone.
