The Detroit Tigers made a trade on Monday afternoon, acquiring right-hander Dario Agrazal from the Pirates for cash considerations.
Agrazal, who turns 25 on Dec. 28, will take the spot of righty Drew VerHagen on the team’s 40-man roster. VerHagen, a six-year Tiger, will play for the Nippon Ham-Fighters of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League.
The move creates roster flexibility for the Tigers: Agrazal has a minor-league option remaining, while VerHagen — who has twice been designated for assignment — is second-year arbitration eligible.
