Hall of Fame weekend has passed, as has the non-waiver trade deadline, and the dog days of summer are officially here for the Detroit Tigers and those who write about them.
George Sipple does not write about the Tigers anymore and the team has responded: Since the longtime Free Press sports writer filed his final story Sunday, the Tigers are 2-0.
The two-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds was nice payback for a month and a half earlier, when the Tigers went to Cincinnati one game under the .500 mark. They would get swept, lose nine more games and spiral downward into the All-Star break.
