Whitaker, the former Detroit Tigers’ second baseman — a quiet, smooth-moving, multidimensional player who consistently ranked among the American League’s best during his 19-year career — was not elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday night.
Whitaker was one of 10 former players and executives up for vote on the ballot of this year’s Modern Era Committee, made up of 16 former players and executives.
