What happened: The Detroit Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers, 5-4, at Globe Life Park on Wednesday afternoon. Playing under-manned — without Nick Castellanos or Victor Martinez in the starting lineup — the Tigers persevered well, but lost on a walk-off home run by Nomar Mazara. In his first game as a Tiger, veteran Pete Kozma starred. He hit a home run and scored twice. James McCann drove a go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning but left-hander Daniel Stumpf couldn’t retire lefty Nomar Mazara in the seventh, allowing a game-tying home run. Francisco Liriano’s day was short.
