Detroit Tigers lose Matthew Boyd, then game to Minnesota Twins, 6-0

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins, 6-0, on Tuesday night. The entertainment value in this one was not high. It was a pitcher’s duel early on, until the fifth inning, when Matthew Boyd left the game with a left oblique spasm. Boyd was charged with two runs. The Twins doubled twice off emergency reliever Warwick Saupold and scored three times against Buck Farmer in the seventh. The Tigers (20-28) totaled six hits. They have lost five straight games.

Starting off: Boyd pitched fine, though he was unable to get many swings-and-misses. He danced around lead-off walks in two of the first four innings, allowing one hit, and then left the game after back-to-back walks in the fifth inning.
