LAKELAND, Fla. – Detroit Tigers pitcher Myles Jaye was on the mound warming up, as a fire alarm went off in newly renovated Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Lights flashed and that alarm kept sounding, as Jaye threw the first pitch.
“I didn’t even hear it,” Jaye said, after the Tigers rolled to an 8-0 victory Thursday in their exhibition opener against Florida Southern College. “The first two pitches were balls. When I threw a strike, that’s when I heard the fire alarm. I was like, what the heck is that? Then it finally stopped.
