As Justin Wilson went last season, so did the Detroit Tigers’ bullpen.
When things were good, Wilson was a safety valve for manager Brad Ausmus, coming in and holding a lead in late-inning situations. But when it was bad, he couldn’t even be counted on to get left-handed hitters out.
Wilson pitched through elbow pain for much of 2016. But he says he is finishing up a pain-free off-season and is tinkering with speed in his bullpen sessions.
“I’m trying to make my breaking ball slower than my cutter,” he said at the team's caravan last week.
