CLEARWATER, Fla. — The last time Jordan Zimmermann pitched for Doug Mientkiewicz, it went badly.
He was injured. There were boos.
Zimmermann didn’t know how hurt he was at the time – outside of a right shoulder impingement, there was a partially torn core muscle and two torn hip adductors – but still, he tried to will his way through a minor-league injury rehabilitation start with Triple-A Toledo.
These were the results on May 27: Seven runs, seven hits and two walks in less than an inning of work.
“So I said, ‘The good news is, it can’t get any worse than the last one you tried,’” Mientkiewicz said.
