Detroit Tigers' Jordan Zimmermann, Christin Stewart have core surgery

Dr. William Meyers was busy on Thursday morning.

Two Detroit Tigers, right-hander Jordan Zimmermann and outfielder Christin Stewart, underwent successful core muscle repair surgery by Meyers in Philadelphia.

Both players are expected to be ready for spring training, according to the team.

Stewart, the team’s top hitting prospect, did not play the final three games of the season against the Brewers while dealing with an abdominal strain.

Zimmermann’s surgery was more surprising: The veteran righty appeared to come out of the season in full health. He last pitched on Sept. 29 in Milwaukee.

The players are the latest in a long line of Tigers whom Meyers has operated on.
