Detroit Tigers' Jordan Zimmermann, and his curve ball, return to form

OAKLAND, Calif. — The game began with the sun shining in Jordan Zimmermann’s eyes as he basically threw the ball blind.

It continued with him getting whacked around in the bottom of the third inning, allowing two solo home runs that was more than enough to best the Tigers’ anemic offense.

But after two struggling starts to begin the second half, the Detroit Tigers right-hander’s third against the Athletics on Saturday night was solid, by all standards. To no surprise, it came in large part because he was throwing his curveball more.

“First two starts back, I didn’t really throw the curveball a whole lot,” he said.
