Joe Jimenez, the Detroit Tigers' lone All-Star, was called upon in the fourth inning with two outs to face San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford.
Jimenez, 23, struck out Crawford looking with an 84 m.p.h. slider to finish an 8-pitch at-bat and preserve the American League's 2-1 lead in Washington D.C. on Tuesday night.
Jimenez relieved Blake Snell with two outs and a runner on first.
After a horrendous 2017 season in which he went 0-2 with a 12.32 ERA in 24 games, Jimenez has a 2.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and three saves in 46 games this season.
