The Detroit Tigers have extended their invitations to major league spring training.
Among the 20 non-roster invitees announced on Tuesday afternoon are right-handed pitching prospect Casey Mize and veteran infielder Gordon Beckham.
Mize, 21, is considered the Tigers’ top prospect, according to Baseball America. He was the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s MLB draft.
More:
Beckham, 32, is a .239 hitter in 10 seasons. He signed a minor-league deal.
Mize’s inclusion is not a surprise: often times, spring training invitations are included in rookie deals for top picks. After finishing his junior season at Auburn in 2018, Mize made five minor-league starts last summer, pitching 13u2154 innings.
