Make no mistake, pitchers in the Mexican Pacific Winter League aren't on par with Major League Baseball. Still, Detroit Tigers third baseman Isaac Paredes — at 21 years old — is a batting champion in his native country.
And the Tigers' No. 6 prospect (MLB Pipeline) is one of six candidates for the league's MVP award.
In 42 regular-season games, Paredes went 55-for-145 (.379) with four home runs, 26 RBIs, 27 walks and 12 strikeouts. He also led the league in on-base percentage (.480), on-base-plus-slugging percentage (1.060) and doubles (17).
