LAKELAND, Fla. -- Standing feet away from major league pitchers throwing a bullpen session sometimes is deceiving. Sometimes, they don’t look like they’re throwing all that hard.
Watching Joe Jimenez pitch this morning was not one of those times.
Jimenez, the Detroit Tigers’ most exciting relief prospect in some time, hopped onto a mound in Tiger Town for his first bullpen session of spring training and did not disappoint, looking every bit the part of a pitcher who could help the team in short order.
“I was impressed,” catcher James McCann said.
But what impressed McCann the most was not the speed of Jimenez’s fastball but the tempo with which he carried himself while manager Brad Ausmus and a number of coaches watched.
