NEW YORK — They returned here at rock bottom, less than two months after leaving on a high of beating the Yankees.
Back then, the Detroit Tigers still weren’t hitting. But they were pitching. They were winning, about to head home for Opening Day at 4-3, and rebuilding — at least at the time — was a word used for motivation.
