Detroit Tigers hire Don Kelly as Major League scout; 5 others added

MINNEAPOLIS – Former Detroit Tigers fan favorite Don Kelly is among six additions to the team’s baseball operations department.

After spending this season in a scouting and instructional role with the team, Kelly has officially been hired as a full-time Major League scout, along with Jim Elliott and Paul Mirocke.

Kelly, 37, played nine seasons in the big leagues and six with the Tigers.

In addition to the scouting hires, the team hired three more baseball operations analysts: Danny Vargovick, Drew Jordan and Shane Piesik.

“Today’s announcement is another step in the building of our infrastructure within baseball operations,” general manager Al Avila said in a statement.
