With an already taxed bullpen entering Saturday night's game at Comerica Park, the Detroit Tigers were hoping to get extended innings from starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter. The Chicago White Sox, though, made sure that didn't happen.
Carpenter was hit early and often by Chicago's offense, lasting 4u2153 innings in a 6-1 loss to the White Sox. He allowed six earned runs on nine hits and a walk. Carpenter struck out five.
White Sox starter Lucas Giolito (10-9) held the Tigers' offense to one run on three hits in seven innings. Detroit's lone run came on Mikie Mahtook's homer in the second inning.
