In the Detroit Tigers’ latest win, a 3-1 decision over the Royals for their fifth straight, seventh in 10 games and more than the most die-hard of fans could have expected this early in the season, they followed a similar script.
Their starting pitcher was outstanding. Their offense, which has showed signs of waking up but remains in a lull, scored a few runs. But this time, it was their defense that made that celebratory walk possible.
“We’ve talked about this a lot already,” manager Ron Gardenhire said. “It’s about throwing the ball over the plate and catching the ball and we’ve been doing a pretty nice job of that.
