FORT MYERS, Fla. — Detroit Tigers designated hitter Frank Schwindel may not like the up-and-down part of the baseball business, but he understands it. He also wants to make sure he doesn’t stay down.
Last year, the power hitter caught a tough break when he was the Kansas City Royals’ opening day first baseman for a total of six games before he was eventually designated for assignment.
On Wednesday, a day after being hit by a pitch on his left hand, Schwindel refused to stay down. He was back in the lineup and hit two home runs in the Tigers’ 13-9 win over the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park.
