It started with the schedule: The conclusion of the 1994 players strike in early 1995 necessitated an abbreviated 144-game schedule, with Opening Day on April 25.
The players who would lead the Tigers into Comerica Park five years later, such as Tony Clark and Bobby Higginson, were just starting their careers. Manager Sparky Anderson and second baseman Lou Whitaker were in their final season. (Alan Trammell wasn’t far behind; he was the lone member of the 1984 title squad to suit up in Detroit in 1996.
