Detroit Tigers drop Game 1 of doubleheader; Travis Demeritte learns Comerica Park

Rookie Travis Demeritte is learning what former Tiger Nicholas Castellanos knows all too well: Playing right field at Comerica Park can be tricky.

Demeritte, acquired from the Atlanta Braves in last week’s Shane Greene trade and making only his second home start, is still learning the ropes of Comerica’s vast outfield — and it’s showing.

In Tuesday afternoon’s 5-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox, the first of a day/night doubleheader, Demeritte misjudged Jose Abreu’s double in the fifth inning, allowing the go-ahead run to score in a 2-2 tie.

Though he wasn’t charged with an error since it was a running attempt, the ball glanced off Demeritte’s glove and probably should have been caught.
