LAKELAND, Fla. — After nearly two weeks of spring training action, the Detroit Tigers finally have an injury concern on their hands – and some paranoia to boot.
Drew VerHagen, the right-handed reliever who is counted on to pitch in the back-end of the team’s bullpen this season, will undergo tests after an erratic performance on Wednesday afternoon against the Braves.
The diagnosis has yet to be determined, manager Ron Gardenhire said a day later, only revealing that VerHagen was “getting checked out” and that the team will “run some tests” on the pitcher.
Asked if the team could specify those general tests, a media relations official said the tests were arm-related.
