A little more than a week ago, Lou Whitaker waited for a phone call.
He had some “inside info” on when it would come, he said — the National Baseball Hall of Fame would phone 45 minutes before the results would be revealed on MLB Network.
There was no call. Whitaker phoned former Detroit Tigers teammate Alan Trammell.
Tram’s first question was, “Lou, did you get the call?” and of course, Lou did not. In his first try at the Hall of Fame in 18 years, he received six of the 12 votes needed to be elected by the Modern Era committee.
