ARLINGTON, Texas – Brad Ausmus isn’t concerned.
But the manager admitted after the Detroit Tigers’ 12-5 loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night that he was curious as to why rookie right-handed reliever Joe Jimenez’s fastball registered lower on the radar gun than normal.
Jimenez’s fastball typically sits in the mid-90 m.p.h. range and has occasionally topped out in the upper-90 m.p.h. range. According to Brooks Baseball, his average fastball velocity this season has been 96.01 m.p.h.
