Detroit Tigers 'curious' about Joe Jimenez's velocity drop

ARLINGTON, Texas – Brad Ausmus isn’t concerned.

But the manager admitted after the Detroit Tigers’ 12-5 loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night that he was curious as to why rookie right-handed reliever Joe Jimenez’s fastball registered lower on the radar gun than normal.

Jimenez’s fastball typically sits in the mid-90 m.p.h. range and has occasionally topped out in the upper-90 m.p.h. range. According to Brooks Baseball, his average fastball velocity this season has been 96.01 m.p.h.

In Jimenez's second appearance in as many days, entering the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, only one of his eight fastballs thrown registered higher than 94 m.
