WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Detroit Tigers walked eight times on Sunday; it was the second time they've picked up at least that many free passes this season.
One problem: The Tigers failed to capitalize on all those walks in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Washington Nationals in the finale of the three-game series at Nationals Park.
The offense, producing six hits and eight walks, finished 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners. The Tigers (20-24) dropped back-to-back games to the Nationals, who entered the weekend with the worst record in the National League.
