The Detroit Tigers today purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Bobby Parnell from Triple-A Toledo and placed right-hander Warwick Saupold on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.
In 21 appearances with the Mud Hens, Parnell, a former closer with the New York Mets, has a 0-0 record with four saves, a 3.98 ERA and 16 strikeouts.
To create room for Parnell on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated the contract of right-handed pitcher Jose Valdez for assignment.
