A quick look at the ailments of Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera in recent seasons. Kirkland Crawford, Detroit Free Press
CHICAGO – It started as a blowout, with the Detroit Tigers banging hits and home runs all over the yard. But that would have been too easy for this bunch – they only win close games – so in came the bullpen.
And when it did in the sixth inning, led by right-hander Zac Reininger, the Tigers’ cruise to a series-opening victory sunk with him, and then Drew VerHagen and Reed Garrett, too.
In an impressive display of bullpen melting down, the Tigers allowed seven runs in 1u2153 innings, turning a dominating win into a demoralizing loss when Tim Anderson hit a walk-off home run for a 12-11 win.
