CARLSBAD, Calif. — Their net has been cast, a “wide net,” Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila said, for free agents who aren’t too good or too expensive.
For a second consecutive off-season, the Tigers will be looking for stop-gap players, most likely those willing to sign one-year deals.
Avila began meeting with player agents at the General Managers’ Meetings on Wednesday afternoon as he searches for two primary needs: Shortstop and starting pitcher.
