PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Mark Lowe sat on a wooden bench, T-shirt on and uniform off. He was untying his cleats when Anibal Sanchez came around the corner.
Sanchez, the struggling Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher, patted him on the back.
They were among the first two inside the clubhouse on Thursday afternoon, halfway through the Tigers’ 5-5 tie with the Mets. Both were in need of solid performances. Only one delivered.
Once again, it was Sanchez who fielded questions about the present – allowing four runs on six hits in three innings – and the future, which looked on this day as murky as it did in his previous two appearances.
