Detroit Tigers right-handed pitching prospect Alex Faedo took the latest questions about his velocity dip in stride. He said he was asked similar questions early in 2017 as a junior at Florida, before being named Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series.
Faedo patiently answered queries about his low-90s fastball on June 22 in Erie, Pa.
"I don't think velocity tells it all," Faedo said. "If you really watch baseball, some guys throw 100 miles an hour and people still turn on it all the time. I think fastballs play different."
Nobody in the Tigers' front office seems concerned that Faedo is at 90-92 with his fastball and is 3-4 miles per hour off what he was throwing last season.
