LAKELAND, Fla. -- Matt Martin would have preferred that a 30-second time limit be placed on the replay booth in New York, rather than the managers.
Major League Baseball on Thursday announced a 30-second time limit for managers to issue a replay challenge this season, part of changes meant to speed up the game.
Even though it's ultimately on Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus whether to challenge a call, he relies on information from Martin, the team's defensive coordinator, who watches the replays and relays what he sees to the dugout.
Martin said 30 seconds might not be enough time to make the right call on whether to challenge because he's at the mercy of replays shown on TV in that time span.
