In the middle of the 1951 season Bill Veeck bought the St. Louis Browns franchise (they moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles in 1954).
He had spent his working working for his father William Veeck, Sr., president of the Chicago Cubs, bought the Triple-A Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association in 1941 and later, in 1946, became majority owner of the Cleveland Indians.
