It’s been a while since the Tigers hit six home runs in a game. Ten years, in fact. But when their starting right fielder and slugger left the game with what turned out to be a fractured elbow, the Tigers showed there’s plenty of power to be found in this lineup and beat the Royals, 10-4, at Kauffman Stadium.
J.D. Martinez was placed on the disabled list following the game, with Steve Moya recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
Victor Martinez played the major role in the victory. He hit a second inning solo home to cut the Royals’ lead to 2-1, another in the fourth to cut it to one run again, and his third home run of the night in the ninth to make the final score.
