And on the eighth day of September baseball, it came.
The pitching changes. There were 14 of them on this sweltering late-summer night at Comerica Park.
The follies. There were a few in this matchup between the out-of-contention Detroit Tigers and outside-looking-in Tampa Bay Rays, in a game that started off swiftly, with pace, until it screeched to a halt in the sixth inning.
And from there, it got weird. That half inning, Brad Ausmus went through pitcher after pitcher. Al Alburquerque tried a pickoff move to first base. The next, the Tigers tied the game on a crazy concoction of running blunders.
