ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Detroit Tigers won their fifth game in a row and are five games over .500 for the first time this season.
The Tigers (43-38) will attempt to complete a four-game road series sweep Sunday after beating the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2, at Tropicana Field on Saturday.
Justin Verlander allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over seven innings for the Tigers. He walked one and struck out eight.
Verlander had allowed a season-high eight runs in a 9-3 loss to the Indians in his last start.
Ian Kinsler gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning after hitting his 15th home run of the season.
