DETROIT -- Former Detroit Tiger David Price combined with three relievers to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 1-0 shutout victory on Friday night at Comerica Park.
The Red Sox (69-30) have the best record in baseball, while the Tigers (41-58) have lost 10 of their last 13 and 21 of 26.
Price, who played for the Tigers in 2014 and 2015, retired the first nine batters before having to break a sweat. Five Tigers reached base in the fourth and fifth innings, but none of them scored.
Former Tiger J.D. Martinez, playing in his first game at Comerica Park since being traded a year ago this week, went 0-for-3 with a walk, although he did make an impressive wall-crashing catch in right field in the third inning.
